For this project, I was inspired by traditional Hungarian folk costumes, focusing on the underskirts. These layers, though often hidden, carry meaning—how many you wear can show status, and colors can reflect marriage or grief.
I explored these symbols to tell a personal story about homesickness, childhood, and moving abroad. I took a tra- ditional idea from my Hungarian background and brought it into a modern context.
I felt this was important, because the traditional symbols in Hungary are often associated with certain political views, but I wanted to show that folklore can be a way to connect with home, without any political connotations.
